KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A teen is injured and two suspects are at large after shots were fired at home on Kalamazoo’s Eastside as children were present.
Public Safety officers were patrolling the 400 block of Gilbert Avenue near East Michigan Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Sunday when they reported hearing multiple gunshots.
Witnesses said that two suspects began firing near a home where about seven adults and an infant were outside and bullets entered the living room window of a home where four young children were seated.
The two suspects fled the scene and an 18-year-old girl suffered minor injuries during the incident.
While investigating, authorities discovered shell casings near the intersection of Bridge Street and Gilbert Avenue as well as a vehicle that was struck by bullets in the 700 block of Gilbert Avenue.
Officers observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the scene and made contact with the driver in the 600 block of East Michigan Ave.
The 19-year-old Kalamazoo man admitted to witnessing the shots being fired and said that he had a firearm. The teen was taken into custody for carrying a concealed weapon in an automobile and the loaded pistol was seized.
This shooting occurred in the same area where a 17-year-old was shot and injured on Monday, August 10th.
