FILLMORE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 33-year-old Kalamazoo man died in a two-vehicle crash south of Holland around dawn on Friday.
According to troopers from the Michigan State Police post in Wayland, Diego Garcia-Palencia was driving his SUV westbound on 142st Avenue around 6 a.m. when he apparently drove through a stop sign at 56th Street and into the path of a northbound pickup truck, driven by 40-year-old Nathan Patmos of Hamilton.
Garcia-Palencia was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allegan County Medical Examiner’s Office; Patmos was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of what was described only as “non-life threatening” injuries.
Troopers add that alcohol and drugs “do not appear to be a factor” as the crash remains under investigation.
