KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Metro Transit is extending hours for bus services as COVID-19 conditions improve in the Kalamazoo region.
The public transportation agency said in a statement that lengthened hours will begin on Monday, June 8th after more than two months of reduced services due to the outbreak.
Fixed routes will be available from 6:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
additional half-hour service will also be available on weekdays until 6:38 p.m. for the following routes:
- Route 1: Westnedge
- Route 2: Portage
- Route 9: Gull
- Route 14: West Main
Beginning Sunday, June 14th additional Sunday services will start again with hours from 9:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Metro Connect, the agency’s on-demand service, is also available for use for those needing specific rides or traveling after fixed-route service ends.
Bus fare will continue to not be required for passengers. Kalamazoo Metro Transit announced that fares would be suspended in March, citing that difficult financial situation for many community members caused by the pandemic.
Passengers are being advised to wear a face-covering during trips and may be refused service if they fail to wear one.
