KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Facing the possibility of outside protesters coming to Kalamazoo, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office asked Kalamazoo County buildings to close early Monday.
WWMT reported that the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office had confirmed a tip received which indicated that a group from outside Kalamazoo may be coming to the protest.
Details regarding the group and the tip were not immediately made available.
Crews were seen boarding up the county building windows and police said they would not interfere with peaceful protesters.
This news comes on the same day that the County Government had announced plans to reopen its buildings to the public by appointment only.
Prayer protests took place throughout the Kalamazoo area on Tuesday.
In a related matter, the City of Battle Creek says that the Battle Creek Police Department (BCPD) is anticipating another protest late Monday afternoon, and that anyone not participating should avoid the downtown area.
Similar to events in Kalamazoo, police have recommended various facilities send workers home early, out of an abundance of caution for safety as the protest is underway.
The BCPD says that such measures were not necessary over the weekend, as there is less traffic and fewer facilities open over the weekend.
“We ask all neighbors to stay safe, and protest peacefully as they exercise their rights in our city,” city officials said.
