KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A driver allegedly involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Kalamazoo woman has been identified by police.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says it has located the vehicle and the person behind the wheel that struck 46-year-old Anita McClendon on Monday, April 27th.
McClendon was hit by a vehicle around 9:45 p.m. while walking along the 500 block of Ada Street near North Westnedge Avenue in Kalamazoo’s Northside neighborhood.
First responders found the woman injured on the roadway and transported her to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Nearby surveillance footage released by KDPS shows a dark purple 2009 GMC Acadia leaving the area when the crash occurred.
Habel told MLive that no arrests have been made in the case but the county prosecutor’s office is planning to filed charges next week.
Capt. Craig Habel says both the driver and passenger have been interviewed by police, with the driver claiming that they did not know they had hit the victim.
