KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County health officials are reporting that three more deaths relating to the COVID-19 epidemic have occurred, bringing the total deaths up to six.
On Tuesday, April 7th the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department confirmed that two older adults had died from the illness. A released statement declined to name or identify the individuals but described them as having underlying medical conditions prior to contracting COVID-19.
The next day on Wednesday the department released information on another fatality from the virus. The patient was also listed as an older adult who had preexisting health conditions.
According to County data, the total number of confirmed cases is sitting at 64.
On Monday, March 23, the Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department reported their first three positive cases of the coronavirus. The three adult cases are unrelated and one is a deputy with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department.
At least two officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety have also tested positive. On Monday, March 30, the first COVID-19 death was reported in Kalamazoo County. On Saturday, April 4, two additional deaths were confirmed.
County health officials recommend that members of the public take precautions seriously and practice prevention such as: stay home, avoid all public gatherings of any size, if you must go out for essential items wear a cloth face covering and maintain six feet from others, and wash your hands.
