DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — UPDATE: The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) has confirmed a second case of cornavirus in one of its employees.
The second victim is an employee at the Detroit Detention Center, who does not have a history of domestic or international travel. In addition to the earlier-reported Jackson case, MDOC employees are working to determine who this person had contact with.
“Our primary focus is the health and safety of our staff, the offenders and the public,” said MDOC Director Heidi Washington. “This is a matter we take seriously and are taking the advice of public health professionals and have notified employees who need to be quarantined.”

JACKSON, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) has confirmed that an employee at the Jackson County Probation Office has tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as of Tuesday.
In a statement, officials say that the employee in question had a history of international travel, and is also the first MDOC employee to be diagnosed.
MDOC has been in contact with the individual and the department is figuring out who the employee has had contact with.
“We are glad to hear our employee is feeling better,” MDOC Director Heidi Washington said. “We continue to do all we can to protect the health of our staff, their families and the offenders they supervise.”
As a result of the positive test, the local health department has ordered all Jackson County Probation Office staff to leave their work site and quarantine for the next 14 days.
The department is now working to make arrangements for continued supervision of the probationers in the county, since the staff will be unable to perform those duties during the quarantine.
With the news of this case, the total amount of cases in Michigan are currently up to 65, according to the Michigan government. There are currently no cases of the virus reported in Kalamazoo County.
