KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are investigating a series of car larcenies in an area where many college students live.
Authorities were called to the 1500 block of Kickapoo Court at the Bronco Club Apartments in the Knollwood Neighborhood around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after a report of several suspects breaking into vehicles.
When officers arrived the five juveniles attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended. One of them was also involved in a theft from earlier in the night.
Two of the thieves were taken into custody and the other three were released to their guardians.
During the investigation officers also recovered some suspected stolen items and are attempting to return them to the victims involved.
They’re asking anyone in the area who believes that they were also a victim of the car break ins to report them immediately to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
This comes after a number of reported stolen vehicles in the city as well.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has issued the following tips to reduce chances of having a vehicle stolen:
- Never leave your vehicle running unattended
- Lock your doors and leave windows up
- Don’t leave valuables where easily visible
- Park in secure, well-lit areas
