KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Kalamazoo are reporting an increase in vehicle thefts in the last few weeks.
Police say that in many of these cases, the stolen vehicles has been left unlocked and running while they were warming up.
As a result, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has issued the following tips to reduce chances of having a vehicle stolen:
- Never leave your vehicle running unattended
- Lock your doors and leave windows up
- Don’t leave valuables where easily visible
- Park in secure, well-lit areas

The news comes as police in Van Buren County are reporting a series of recent vehicle break-ins.
