LANSING, MI (WJXQ) — A Michigan State Police trooper will learn his fate in court next month after pleading guilty in an on duty traffic accident that killed a mid-Michigan man.
Twenty two-year-old trooper Brian Wiles has admitted guilt to reckless driving for an accident in July that killed 26-year-old David Engel of DeWitt, which is just north of Lansing.
Trooper Wiles was on his way to shoplifting call with lights and siren on when he struck a semi-truck at a crossroads. That truck then lost control and struck the vehicle Engel was driving, killing him.
Wiles has been on paid leave pending the outcome of a Stat Police internal review. He faces a sentencing date in early December.
