LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The week of Nov. 10-16 marks National Traffic Incident Response Week in Michigan.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the week his meant to raise awareness of the importance of drivers slowing down and moving over for emergency and maintenance vehicles, as well as safely managing traffic incidents and preventing secondary crashes.
In February 2019, Michigan’s Move Over law was expanded to include new provisions.
The expansion requires motorists to slow down to at least 10 mph below the posted speed limit and move over if possible, passing with caution for stationary emergency vehicles.
The law includes moving over and slowing down for roadside tow trucks, garbage trucks, maintenance, and utility vehicles that have amber lights flashing.
