PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Detroit area man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle on I-94 in Portage.
Kalamazoo County dispatchers first received a call shortly after 9:00 p.m. Wednesday about a man wearing dark clothing walking along the westbound side of I-94.
About 30-minutes later, Michigan State Police were called to a crash involving an eastbound vehicle and a pedestrian near the Portage Road exit.
The pedestrian, identified as 38-year-old Omari Bell, died as a result of the crash and the driver suffered minor injuries.
Traffic was re-routed off of the exit ramp at eastbound I-94 exit 78 (Portage Road), and then back onto eastbound I-94 at the entrance ramp for several hours last night but the freeway reopened just after midnight.
MSP was assisted by the Portage Department of Public Safety and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
