LANSING, MI (WJXQ) — A northern Michigan couple is a lot richer thanks to claiming the 80-million dollar Powerball jackpot from the September 21, 2019 drawing. Phillip and Dawn Chippewa of Suttons Bay stepped forward at Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing Wednesday morning to claim their windfall, of which they’ll pocket 42-million dollars after taxes.
Phillip Chippewa says he’ll keep working for the time being but will buy homes for all of his seven children, a new home for himself and his wife, and buy a new Harley-Davidson and a white Dodge Challenger.
It’s just the fourth time a winning Powerball jackpot was claimed in Michigan.
