KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Township trustees are having the same discussion as City Commissioners in regards to opting in or out of allowing recreational marijuana businesses in their area.
At their meeting Monday night the Kalamazoo Township board decided to table the issue to give them more time to look into the specific language, restrictions, and other zoning regulations.
This comes about 4-months after they opted out of recreational marijuana businesses within the township borders as a temporary solution.
Trustees say their goal is to try and keep regulations consistent between medical and recreational marijuana and currently there are too many unanswered questions.
Township trustees passed an ordinance so they can opt in whenever they want.
Nearby, Kalamazoo City Commissioners just started their discussion into delaying allowing recreational marijuana businesses in the city until June 1st.
They have until November 1st to make their decision or else they will be automatically opted in by the state.
However, these moves do not impact recreational marijuana usage, just where marijuana businesses can set up shop at.
