PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Portage Public Safety is continuing their investigation of an apartment fire lateSunday night.
Crews were summoned to Tozer Court at the Greenspire Apartments off of Centre Avenue just before 10 p.m. Sunday and found a three story complex with smoke coming from the top floor.
Before the officers arrived, a neighbor had kicked in the door where the smoke was coming from and led the apartment’s occupant to safety.
Both people were treated at the scene and then taken to an area hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
The apartment sustained smoke and heat damage and the preliminary cause was determined to be cooking.
