BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — One woman involved in a conspiracy to kidnap, rape and murder a child was sentenced in court Monday.
20-year-old Jayme LaPointe of Athens was sentenced in Branch County Court to between 25 and 50 years for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, five to 25 years for conspiracy to commit criminal sexual conduct, and 25 to 50 years for conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
LaPointe will be required to register as a sex offender and the two sentences of 25 to 50 years will be served concurrently.
Having previously plead guilty to the charges in July, LaPointe’s first CSC charge was for sexually assaulting an infant in 2017.
LaPointe was arrested with three others last year when details of the kidnapping plot came to the attention of police. All four were arrested before the plot could happen.
Two of the other suspects in the plot, David Bailey of Kalamazoo and Talia Furman of Battle Creek, were sentenced last month. The fourth suspect, Matthew Toole of Battle Creek, will stand trial next month.
