GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Grand Rapids man accused of killing and dismembering the body of an Oshtemo woman is now heading to trial.
30-year-old Jared Chance rejected a plea offer Monday morning. If he accepted it, he would’ve been sentenced to a minimum of 31-years in prison but in exchange he would have had to explain what happened to the rest of Ashley Young’s missing remains.
Chance is facing charges of open murder, mutilation of a body, concealing a death, and 3-counts of tampering with evidence after parts of 31-year-old Ashley Young’s body were discovered in the basement of his southeast Grand Rapids home December 2, 2018.
Young was last seen November 29, 2018 at Miss Tracy’s Party Store and was also seen the night before with Chance at Mulligan’s Pub in Grand Rapids.
If convicted, he could face a mandatory sentence of life without parole. Jury selection will now begin for his murder trial.
