KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies say even though the Kalamazoo river is slowly receding, it’s still best to stay off the water.
Last reported the river was high at the action level of 7-feet and still has swift currents in certain areas.
Several kayakers have already been saved from the river due to the rising and fast moving waters.
— PORTAGE RIVER FLOODING —
A severe river flood warning is also in place for the Portage River near Vicksburg until further notice.
Forecasters say around 2 p.m. Monday the stage for the Portage River was at 5.6 feet and the flood stage is 5.0 feet.
— ELECTRIC SHOCK DROWNINGS —
Marina officials throughout the state are continuing to stress the major concerns of electric shock drownings.
They say many docks and piers that have electrical connections are being flooded due to higher waves and water levels.
This can cause electrical shock drowning if someone comes into contact with a stray electric current.
— CLOSED ROADS —
In addition, drivers around Kalamazoo should also be cautious of some lingering closed and flooded roads.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department released a statement saying drivers should heed to all traffic control signage and do not move any barricades.
Many roads in the Kalamazoo County were closed due to flooding, wash outs, or down trees.
