GALESBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two kayakers are now on dry ground thanks to the assistance of Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies and the Galesburg Fire Department.
Crews were called to the Kalamazoo River near Galesburg just before 2 p.m. Monday after a report of two kayakers in distress after their kayaks overturned and they were in the swift moving waters.
The two 20-year-old girls were rescued from the water and had no injuries.
With all the rain in the last week the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is reminding people that the river is very fast moving and at a high level at the moment, making it much more dangerous.
Kayakers, canoers, boaters, and anyone else on the water should use extreme caution or simply wait until the water has receded.
