GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — The man who has already been convicted of raping East Kentwood student Mujey Dumbuya, is on trial this week in Grand Rapids for allegedly killing the 16-year-old to keep her from testifying against him.
The body of the young woman was found along a trail in the West Douglas Neighborhood in Kalamazoo in January of 2018 just days after a date was set for Quinn James to be tried for her rape. She had been strangled.
A jury was seated Monday, and opening arguments and the first witnesses will come Tuesday.
James is charged with first degree murder, felony murder, kidnapping and conspiracy.
Conviction on any of the counts could mean life in prison.
The 43-year-old is already serving 20 to 30-years for the rape convictions.
