BENTON HARBOR(WKZO AM/FM) — A man who committed a double murder that was considered so egregious and horrifying that he made the FBI’s Most Wanted list has been found guilty by a jury in Berrien County.
28-year-old Antwan Mims who was called “Tank” by his friends in Benton Harbor, walked up to Cortez Lamont Miller and Michael Canthrell Johnson during a house party on Lavette Street in Benton Harbor in March 2018 and shot them both at point blank range in front of about
100 terrified witnesses. They testified he stood over them and gave each of his victims a kill shot to the head, and then calmly walked away.
He fled the community and after a national manhunt he was taken into custody hiding in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.
He testified during his trial last week that it was self-defense because the two victims had threatened him, but the Jury wasn’t buying the explanation and took only three hours to return with guilty verdicts on all five charges he faced Friday, including two counts of first degree murder and gun felonies.
He will be given mandatory life without chance of parole when he is sentenced on March 18th.
