(WKZO AM/FM) — Under pressure, the EPA has launched their 65-page PFAS Action Plan which they say is designed to address the short term and long term issues involved with the emerging contaminant.
But EPA Director Andrew Wheeler could not promise any deadline or time table for the two most pressing issues: declaring the PFOS and PFAS as hazardous substances and setting a maximum contaminant level standard for what constitutes a dangerous exposure.
All he could promise is they will take the first step by the end of the year.
Wheeler says in the meantime they will continue to pursue cleanups and other remediation programs around the country. He calls their plan unprecedented.
Senator Gary Peters says the EPA is dragging its feet and he intends to keep up the pressure to get faster results.
More information and the full plan can be found here.
