KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A 48-year-old man from Detroit is in custody after leading police from several agencies on a high speed chase through Kalamazoo and Allegan Counties early Sunday morning.
A Public Safety Officer was flagged down at about 1:45 am by the victim at the Shell Station Downtown and told that someone had just stolen a Pick-up vehicle.
The owner was able to track the vehicle, telling Officers the theif fled out of town on West Main.
He was intercepted at U.S. 131, and chased north at speeds of up to 100 mph into Allegan County where deputies were waiting with stop sticks and were able to partially disable the vehicle by blowing out tires just south of the 100th Street Bridge.
He tried to flee on foot but was tracked down, arrested and turned over to Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers.
He was booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail on a variety of felony counts.
