Editor’s note: The first version of this story indicated the TV station was in Wisconsin. In fact, the story was produced by a Chicago-based correspondent and used by Fox network affiate stations, as far away as Washington, D.C. The story has since been removed.
HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A Fox TV station’s story on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, included a map of the upper Midwest, but indicated Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is Canadian. The map image appears 13 seconds into the video of a story headlined “Foxconn’s shifting stance on a major manufacturing plant in Wisconsin.”
The error drew some attention from Michigan residents. On WHTC’s Facebook page, comments included Billy Nies’, “Um, so anyways, we’re going to need that back eh,” a reference to Canadians’ use of the interjection “eh?”
Others joked about fake news and sneaky Canadians, and Dave Stiemsma wrote, “Should have built a WALL!”
Related wall jokes elsewhere on social media included a suggestion that Michigan’s international border should be protected by a wall of the UP’s famous meat pies, pasties.
