MICHIGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — Last week’s big freeze is being followed by a big thaw that began Saturday and has slowly been melting away the snow ever since.
— POTHOLES —
But just because the snow is melting doesn’t mean the job for road crews is slowing down.
Michigan Department of Transportation’s Nick Schirripa says their next problem is potholes.
And if the potholes look very dangerous, residents should notify MDOT immediately so they can be prepared before the next big freeze.
More and more are expected to appear as this short winter warm-up continues.
— FLOODING —
The sudden thaw after the polar vortex could also mean flooding on your street if the melting snow can’t get to storm drains.
Officials say homeowners should clean the snow and ice off of their roofs using a roof rake shovel from the ground to prevent any leaks or further home damages.
— EARLY SPRING? —
Good news on Groundhog Day both Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania and Woody the Woodchuck at the Howell Nature Center in Michigan predicted an early spring.
The National Weather Service disagrees, they expect we will see a late spring.
We will find out which is right next month.
