ST.JOSEPH COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — This week’s extreme polar plunge is being blamed for the death of a Three Rivers woman whose body was found Wednesday, frozen and snow covered on the steps of her home in Fabius Township.
Authorities say 90-year-old Ada Salna is believed to have gone outside to restock her bird feeders at her isolated home on Kurzeme Road and accidentally got locked out.
An autopsy conducted by W-MED in Kalamazoo showed she may have cut herself trying to break back in through a window and blood loss may have also contributed to her death.
Temperatures had dipped to 15-below between the time she was last seen alive and when she was found dead.
Nationally 21 have died as a result of the Polar Vortex’s visit to the U.S. this past week.
