UNDATED WKZO AM/FM) — Today is National Wear Red Day, but it’s more than just a wardrobe choice, it’s a way of sparking a discussion about heart disease in women.
Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year, but 80-percent of those deaths are preventable if women are properly informed.
Kimberly Earnshaw, the Go Red for Women Director for The American Heart Association of Southwest Michigan says women need to know their body, know their numbers and be informed on the symptoms and risks.
Both women and men are encourage to wear red to raise awareness and give a donation to the American Heart Association during Heart Month.
