OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — The big freeze in West Michigan is about to turn into a big thaw over the weekend, if National Weather Service predictions are correct. And a thaw could mean big trouble for those living along West Michigan waterways, according to Ottawa County Water Resources Commissioner Joe Bush.
He said he and Ottawa county Emergency Manager Nick Bonstell would meet Thursday and sketch out plans for responding to such emergencies as an ice jam on the Grand River or other hotspots from tributarie, in such places as Coopersville,Talmadge Township, Georgetown Township
The National Weather Service and Bonstell’s office are actively monitoring water levels, Bush said, as are Sheriff’s deputies, road commission workers, along with long-time residents familiar with the weather hazards.
