HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The parents of mutilation suspect Jared Chance appeared in a Grand Rapids Courtroom briefly yesterday, learning their preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019.
Jared Chance, who grew up in Holland, faces charges of failing to report a death and of dismembering an Ostemo Township woman’s body.
His parents, Holland residents James and Barbara Chance, are each charged with perjury and being an accessory after the fact, for failing to report what they allegedly knew about Oshtemo Township resident Ashley Young’s death.
The Chances assert they tried reporting the incident to Grand Rapids Police, with James — a retired police officer — bringing his son into a Grand Rapids police station to make the report — only to be told that it was a Kalamazoo case and it had to be reported to them.
Jared Chance’s preliminary hearing is set for January 4th. Ashley Young’s mother, who was in the Chances’ courtroom Wednesday, has publicly begged for him to disclose where the rest of her daughter’s remains can be found.
