UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — Wednesday was the first day that the partial federal government shutdown actually impacted government workers because of the Christmas Holiday.
We now have a clearer picture of how it’s impacting the State of Michigan. The Ford Presidential Library and the Keweenaw Historical Park are closed.
You can venture into two of Michigan’s most popular federal parks, Sleeping Bear Dunes and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore but the bathrooms and visitors centers are closed, there is no staff and any organized activities have been scrubbed.
Transportation Safety Administration, Border Patrol, and air traffic control operators are working but may not get paid, because they are considered essential services.
IRS and Agricultural officials are not getting paid, but at least they don’t have to work.
Congress returns to Washington today and unless the impasse is resolved immediately, Coast Guard Crews in Michigan will be the first to miss a payday on Monday.
