GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — Jared Chance, the Grand Rapids man being charged with the mutilation of an Oshtemo woman was back in court Tuesday for preliminary hearing, which will be continued because of defense requests for evidence and information.
Chance’s Attorney, Andrew Rodenhouse, told the judge that Chance and his father went to a Grand Rapids Police Station and tried to report what had happened the day before his arrest.
He claims they were turned away, told that it was a matter for Kalamazoo authorities to deal with.
The Prosecutor says there is more to the story, but declined to elaborate.
Rodenhouse also asked to have Chance’s bond lowered, but the prosecution objected, saying he is still being investigated for the death of Ashley Young.
The Judge continued his bond at $750,000 and set a January 4th date for a resumption of the hearing.
