KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek man who was found guilty of first degree murder for assaulting and stabbing a mentally challenged Kalamazoo woman 29-times in her own apartment has had that conviction reinstated by the Michigan Supreme Court.
In November of 2014, Christopher Oros was running a con on tenants at the Claybourne Apartment Complex on Kalamazoo’s west side, posing as a fellow tenant claiming his girlfriend had left with his keys and credit card and he needed money to get to work.
A confrontation ensued, Oros stabbed Marie McMillan to death and returned later and set the apartment on fire, believing that would destroy any DNA evidence.
The court of appeals ruled that there was no premeditation in the crime and Oros was guilty of second degree murder.
The Justices have now reversed that decision saying Oros’s actions were deliberate and premeditated and reinstated his mandatory sentence of life without parole.
