SEATTLE (WKZO AM/FM) — A 21-year-old Kalamazoo man is bringing home the gold in the Special Olympics USA Games.
Long distance runner Julian Borst took first in both the 5k, where he lapped his opponents, and the 3k race.
He finished with a time of 16:26.30 in the 5k and 9:29.43 in the 3k which was a full 54 seconds ahead of the silver medal finisher.
Borst will also compete in the 10k race Thursday morning.
The competition is held in Seattle at Washington University this week.
Borst grew up in a running family with his mother running cross country at Calvin College in Grand Rapids.
But placing in races is not new to him. Borst also finished 3rd in the 2018 Kalamazoo half marathon.
