HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — Hope College’s Class of 2018 graduated Sunday.
In her commencement address for the graduates, Hope College Assistant Professor of Sociology Temple Smith, talked about deciding where to draw advice for the former students — from the game of Life, fellow academicians or the woman she called America’s cheerleader, Oprah, who exhorts people to live their best lives.
In the end, Smith settled on a theme of hope.
“We ahve this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure,” she told the class. “May you ever be reminded of the anchor, symbolic of your time here, urging you to have hope, firm and secure.”
