UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — Meijer and Kroger say there is nothing wrong with their Romaine Lettuce and a number of restaurants are taking issue with an FDA warning that all forms of Romaine Lettuce should be avoided.
The FDA says even though they believe they have identified the source of the contamination is flettuce grown at a particular farm in Yuma, Arizona, the source isn’t always identified on packages.
Stic Harris with the FDA says it’s better to be safe than sorry if you don’t know where your lettuce comes from to just chuck it in the trash bin.
Fourteen additional illnesses have been reported since the last update on Wednesday, bringing the total to at least 98 cases of the particularly nasty bug across 22 states. Michigan was identified early on as a state where some of the cases were appearing.
Nearly half the people who have been infected have been hospitalized. The additional states that have reported E. coli cases were Mississippi, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
