VICKSBURG (WKZO AM/FM) — Apparently frustrated with Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting, the older sister of suspected murder victim Erik Cross is appealing to the Attorney General to take up the cold case murder and prosecute the suspects.
On a cold day at Vicksburg’s Historic Village, Jacqueline Mitchell, Erik’s big sister said the time has come to try another prosecutor.
The Sheriff’s Department submitted their investigation files on the death of Cross, which occurred in June of 1983 to the prosecutor six months ago, identifying five living suspects.
There have been a number of times that the cold case has been submitted to the Prosecutors office, but previous prosecutors have all found insufficient evidence to take the case to trial. Mitchell says she hasn’t heard anything from Getting.
The Attorney General’s office says they have not yet received the request and will not comment. Getting never comments on ongoing investigations.
Retired Undersheriff Pauli Matyas, who continues to work with Erik’s Army, says Schuette has a department of prosecutors who specialize in cold case prosecutions, who may be willing to take on the case.
They mailed their request after Tuesday morning’s news conference.
