LANSING (WKZO-AM) — This Michigan Legislature has taken its last vote of the year, and the lawmakers gone their separate ways for the holidays. Some of them won’t be coming back, either because they lost reelection or because they are term limited.
That includes Lawton Rep. Aric Nesbitt, who had this last bit of advice for his colleagues as they were adjourning last evening, to make sure they clean out their desks.
The Lame Duck session has turned out differently than many in the past, and some say that’s a good thing.
Some called it a session that lived up to its name,…”lame” , but Kalamazoo Democrat Jon Hoadley prefers to call it something else. “Tame Duck”. He says while they got a lot of work done on worthy legislation bills that just wasn’t completed during the regular session, none of the highly partisan controversial measures managed to get through to the governor.
He says this Lame Duck worked just as it should.Hoadley says the fact that Republicans will still be in control when the new session begins in January eliminated much of the pressure to pass divisive legislation before the end of the year.
