BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — The investigation continues to determine the cause of a house fire at 267 East Michigan Avenue that killed a Battle Creek man Monday night.
After a full day of investigation and analysis, they still have a lot of questions, including what started the fire and what killed the man, who has been identified by relatives as Eric Phillips.
Police are waiting for the results of an autopsy for positive ID and for the cause of death.
Fire Marshal Quincy Jones says it appears the fire began in the living room. That’s where they found the badly burned body.
Family members say Phillips was renovating the home.
One firefighter injured his back during Monday’s fire, but he is expected to fully recover.
