KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Gov. Rick Snyder was among the dignitaries who appeared Sunday night for a picnic and a memorial bike ride organized by a downtown Kalamazoo church to remember those who were killed or injured in a collision with a pickup last week.
Snyder said Kalamazoo is remarkable because it has now weathered two mass-killings in six months.
He also said there are things legislators can do to make the roads safer. He said they have been pushing a “complete streets” initiative that compels cities, county road managers and state road officials to add amenities like sidewalks and bike lanes when appropriate.
Snyder attended the picnic before the ride began, but did not actually get on a bicycle and ride.
Of the politicians at last night’s event, only Kalamazoo County Commissioner Julie Rogers actualy rode to the ghost bike memorial on North Westnedge Avenue in Cooper Township from downtown Kalamazoo.
