LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Rep. John Bizon is pleased the 2017 budget bill on Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk includes money to fund cancer treatment for firefighters.
The First Responder Cancer Presumption Fund was established in 2014, but never funded. Bizon, R-Battle Creek, said that didn’t seem right.
“When you rush into hot fires, you get exposed to many solvents and many chemicals that lead to cancer,” Bizon said.
It sets aside $3 million, the doctor said.
“Now we will finally be able to get some idea exactly what is invoved for the treatment of these various cancers,” Bizon said.
Bizon proposed the budget amendment.
