BATTLE CREEK (WTVB-AM) — Members of the Battle Creek Police Department’s bomb squad were called mid-morning to the Consumers Energy Substation on Elm Street after an employee spotted suspicious gas cans inside the fence.
The area was taped off as bomb squad members deployed a robot to pull the cans apart and move them to the middle of the road.
They found the two cans were linked by a simple ignition device.
It was described as a large “Molotov Cocktail,” which was neutralized and removed.
Elm had to be shut down between Michigan and Van Buren, but the scene was cleared and reopened by noon.
The investigation has turned to who is responsible for building and placing the device.
