VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — A high-speed collision on Interstate 94 in southern Van Buren County has left a woman from Traverse City dead.
Michigan State Police Lt. Dale Hinz said the crash occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday in the westbound lane of the freeway at mile marker 57, which is near the Decatur exit.
Troopers say it appears that the driver, 32-year-old Esmeralda Bermudez, clipped the rear left bumper of a Ford Edge she was attempting to pass. Bermudez went out of control, left the pavement and slammed into a tree.
Bermudez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford and a passenger were not injured.
