KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety is calling the death of a four-year-old suspicious, after the child was found unresponsive on her birthday.
The child’s body has been transported to a local morgue and an autopsy is pending.
Officers responded to an emergency call at 9:38 a.m. Saturday to the 1100 block of Douglas Avenue. The caller told dispatchers that a child was not breathing.
First-responding officers began CPR, but the child could not be revived. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators aren’t saying why it’s being treated as a suspicious death.
The child’s name is being withheld until relatives can be notified. The mother has been jailed on unrelated warrants.
UPDATE 3/28 at 10:57 a.m.: The child has been identified as Kharisma Richardson.
