LANSING (WKZO)– Two more deer in central Michigan have tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease, bringing the total number to seven of the 4900 dear that have been tested.
So far the cases have all been concentrated in a 9-township area near Lansing.
The DNR has deployed sharp shooters to take as many deer from the impacted area as possible to limit the spread of fatal disease. CWD has greatly reduced deer herds in other states where it has spread out of control.
The strange neurological disorder only effects white tailed deer, mule deer, elk and moose. Humans are not impacted.
The DNR is asking that the public report any deer that appears unusually thin, or unusually friendly to humans. The abnormal behavior can mean they are infected.
