PARK TOWNSHIP (WKZO) — It was a bizarre story when it first surfaced last year, and it just got a little stranger. 49-year-old Phillip Feek had been dead for nearly 9 months before his body was found inside his parent’s home in the 53-thousand block of Buckhorn Road in St. Joseph County’s Park Township last summer.
He had been dead so long that they didn’t bother with an autopsy. Police later learned from an anthropologist who examined the corpse that he died from a gunshot wound.
Now two suspects who apparently knew about his death and allegedly took advantage of it by robbing the place, stealing his car, and apparently taking the gun used in his death have now been charged with failing to report a dead body.
Steven Stoner and Tracy Scott face multiple felonies but have not been charged with his murder because they still aren’t sure whether Feek was shot or shot himself.
That investigation will remain open.
