MUSKEGON HEIGHTS (WKZO-AM) — Two communities shaken by gun violence will clash on the basketball court Wednesday night in what’s being called a “unity game.”
It was organized because Shelby High School pulled out of their game against Muskegon Heights, citing safety concerns. A shooting occurred outside the Muskegon Heights gym on Feb. 9.
Kalamazoo Lakeside Charter School has stepped up and will send its basketball team to Muskegon Heights tonight.
Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson says the kids at the school have done nothing wrong and deserve positive attention.
“It is time for Muskegon County to say that enough is enough and we are essentially one,” Hilson said.
The schools are hoping the game will help heal both communities.
