LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Bills have hit Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk that would let Michiganders digitally embed emergency contact information into their IDs and driver’s licenses.
The legislation left the House on Wednesday, with supporters saying the option would help law enforcement and paramedics promptly notify the families of crash victims and provide some peace-of-mind for those who have loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
If signed, the state would begin development of a voluntary information-gathering system that would be in place at the Secretary of State’s office by 2017.
A similar program has already been implemented in Virginia.
It’s not clear if the governor will sign the bills.
