COVERT, MI (WHTC) – The Palisades Nuclear Power Plant near Covert shut down this morning, four days earlier than a planned refueling and maintenance period. Officials of plant operator Entergy say that the automatic action occurred due to failing equipment associated with a non-nuclear, non-safety related turbine generator system. Palisades had been operating continuously for 447 days since its last refueling outage 18 months ago. There was no word on when the facility will return to full operations.
