BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) — The former Director of the Calhoun County V. A. office, Scott Locey has been given four months in jail and two years of probation.
He insisted on gifts, kick-backs and Christmas presents in exchange for his services, helping vets obtain Veterans Benefits, which he was supposed to be offering for free.
By some estimates he received 42-thousand dollars in such payments.
In addition to the jail time Locey was also ordered to pay restitution.
It all came apart when Locey suggested to Phyllis Katz, who had just lost her husband last December that they had a “gentleman’s agreement” that Locey would receive $200 for his services.
She went to authorities and it all unraveled from there.
