ALLEGAN (WKZO) — He may have cut a deal with prosecutors to avoid life/without parole, but an Allegan County Judge said that was no reason that 22-year-old Jonathan Colby shouldn’t do some serious prison time for causing the death of his very young son Jajjce. .
Judge Margaret Bakker says medical reports showed that the infant had suffered abuse for some time and that it came in a variety of forms.
She also stated that Colby admitted to choking and pressing and striking the 3-month old repeatedly when he was drunk.
She sentenced Colby to serve at least 18-years and 9 months up to 30 years for first degree child abuse. Colby had initially been charged with open and felony murder, but both charges were dropped as part of the deal.
